Overview of Census
Every 10 years, the U.S. government counts every person living in the U.S, through the census. The census is a short questionnaire that asks basic information about your household and the people who live in it. The next census will start in March 2020.
Why is Census Important?
Being counted helps you and your family! Data from the census is used to allocate over $800 billion dollars of government funding for important community services, like schools, libraries, food stamps, hospital and roads. It is also used to determine political representation in Congress, in your state capitol, and in cities and towns across the country; a complete count means fair representation for your community. As a historically hard-to-count population, Vietnamese people are at risk of being under-counted again due to language barriers. It is important that everyone participates in the census so that we can have equal political representation and our fair share of resources.
Your Responses are Confidential.
The census will NOT ask about citizenship or immigration status. The Census Bureau is not allowed to share your individual information with other government agencies, immigration officials, or the public. Strong laws protect your response from being shared. Census responses can only be used for statistical purposes.
