VAI’s Youth Program has served over 115 students in its year-round after school and summer programming. The program offers a variety of resources including after-school tutoring, computer training, and personal mentoring. In Fiscal Year 2018, VAI also doubled the size and scope of its Youth Program after the agency obtained funding to execute the Building Resilience Against Violence Engagement (BRAVE) Project, a research project funded by the Office of Minority Health and led by Loyola University Chicago to investigate the factors that increase resilience and reduce the risk of violence among at-risk ethnic minority youth. The BRAVE Project provides comprehensive programming such as mentoring, after-school activities, tutoring, counseling, parental support and other supporting activities.
